Rafael, waiter
Rafael, 18 years old, is a waiter at “The Square” restaurant located under the arches of the Manger Square between the Church and Bethlehem City Hall in front of the Peace Center. He lives in Bethlehem and has already adopted the pedestrian way of life: he carpools or walks home. Rafael explains that 30% of clients of the restaurant are locals, and 70% are tourists attracted by the history of the city and its cultural heritage. Since the transformation of the Manger Square and the prohibition of cars, there has been a slight drop in the number of clients, even if for the moment tourists are still very present.
His relation with Bethlehem and Manger Square
For him to ban cars from the Manger Square was a good decision. It embellishes the Square; nevertheless he recommends to ensure the cleanliness and to install comfortable benches. He would like to enlarge his terrace for the animation of the square.
